When it comes to being a social media manager, the options are vast, from the skills you offer to the brands you choose to work with. Today, my guest, Kellie Daniel, brings a unique perspective. She’s the founder of Second Act Media, specializing in elevating the online presence of celebrities and high-profile clients through social media marketing.
In this episode, Kellie shares her journey into becoming a social media marketer for high-profile brands and offers insights into breaking into this space. Let’s dive in!
Q: How did you get into the high-profile space?
I attended film school at Chatman University, studying TV Writing + Production. Growing up in the film + TV world, I understood the demanding schedules of high-profile clients. Recognizing the underserved need for social media managers in this niche, I leveraged my background and expertise to fill the gap.
Q: What’s your #1 way to find and land high-profile clients?
I primarily find clients through Instagram. Recently, I connected with a client by sharing my appreciation for his work in one of his movies on my Instagram Story. This led to a coffee meeting, and he became a client. Networking and referrals also play a significant role in finding clients within this space.
Q: Advice for those wanting to work with high-profile clients?
When working with high-profile clients, it’s crucial to establish clear task descriptions to ensure alignment of expectations. This includes maintaining confidentiality and privacy, especially when dealing with celebrities. To stand out when pitching to such clients, personalize your approach by tailoring your email and cover letter with details about their background and experiences. Remember, each pitch offers valuable learning experiences, regardless of the outcome.
Q: Top 3 lessons you have learned from your own journey
Learn to say no: Prioritize self-care by setting boundaries and saying no when necessary.
Take care of yourself: Balance work hours, prioritize self-care, and set boundaries to avoid burnout.
Choose your clients wisely: Don’t be afraid to decline clients that aren’t the right fit for you.
